Women of Distinction Award
The Faculty Excellence Center for Success of Women Faculty is pleased to announce the seventh year of the Women of Distinction awards, highlighting the achievements of outstanding women faculty at UCF. Three awards will be given this year for “Excellence in turning your Big Ideas into Big Successes at UCF,” broadly defined. Accomplishments must be associated with UCF and should be related to teaching, research, campus service, community service, outreach efforts, and/or other forms of advocacy connected to the faculty member’s assignment and/or expertise. Big ideas typically address big, complex, or stubborn problems and have the potential for big impacts. We are especially interested in grassroots initiatives and new big ideas that are just getting started.
To celebrate “Big Ideas” at all stages of our careers, a colleague with up to 5 years of service as a faculty member, a colleague with 6 – 10 years of service as a faculty member, and a colleague with more than 10 years of service as a faculty member will be recognized.
Full-time women faculty of all ranks and types (including all ranks of tenured and tenure-earning faculty and all ranks of non-tenure earning faculty including instructor, lecturers, instructional designers, librarians, research, and clinical) are eligible to apply. If groups apply, the team will be judged in the category reflecting years of service of the primary applicant. Self-nominations are encouraged.
Application Process and Deadline
Please submit all materials as a single PDF file to Faculty Excellence (firstname.lastname@example.org) by August 15 in order to be considered.
Applicants must submit the following:
- Completed cover page (click here)
- 1-3 page CV that highlights applicant’s activities related to your Big Ideas and Big Successes* (if longer documents are submitted, we will only consider information on pages 1-3)
- 500 word description of applicant’s excellence in turning Big Ideas into Big Successes* at UCF (word count required)
- One letter of support from a supervisor with knowledge of applicant’s effort
*includes ideas/successes that are beginning and/or emergent
Presentation of Awards
Winners will be announced at the President’s Welcome Reception for Women Faculty at the start of the fall 2018 semester. The winners will each receive a professional development stipend to be used for professional travel, research development and academic materials in the amount $1,000 (provided by the President to the winner’s department that must be spent prior to mid-June 2019), and recognition on the Faculty Excellence website. If a group entry wins, the group will determine how to share the award.
The Faculty Excellence Center for Success of Women Faculty will review submitted applications.
