Women of Distinction Award
The Faculty Excellence Center for Success of Women Faculty is pleased to announce the sixth year of the Women of Distinction awards, highlighting the achievements of outstanding women faculty at UCF. Three awards will be given this year for “Excellence in Mentoring,” broadly defined. To celebrate excellence in mentoring at all stages of our careers, a colleague with up to 5 years of service as a faculty member, a colleague with 6 – 10 years of service as a faculty member, and a colleague with more than 10 years of service as a faculty member will be recognized.
Full-time women faculty of all ranks and types (including all ranks of tenured and tenure-earning faculty and all ranks of non-tenure earning faculty including instructor, lecturers, instructional designers, librarians, research, and clinical) who are excellent mentors of their colleagues, students, and/or community partners are eligible to apply. While the mentors should be women faculty, mentees can be male and female. Self-nominations are encouraged.
Application Process and Deadline
Applicants must submit the following:
- Completed cover page (click here)
- 1-3 page CV that highlights applicant’s mentoring activities (if longer documents are submitted, we will only consider information on pages 1-3)
- 500 word description of applicant’s excellence in mentoring (word count required)
- Two letters of support: one from supervisor with knowledge of applicant’s mentoring efforts and one from colleague or previous student (current students are not permitted to write letters of support)
All materials must be submitted electronically as a single PDF to email@example.com no later than 5:00 pm on August 14, 2017. Late applications will not be considered.
Presentation of Awards
Winners will be announced at the President’s Welcome Reception for Women Faculty at the start of the fall 2017 semester. The winners will each receive a professional development stipend to be used for professional travel, research development and academic materials in the amount $1,000 (provided by President Hitt to the winner’s department that must be spent prior to mid-June 2018), and recognition on the Faculty Excellence website.
The Faculty Excellence Center for Success of Women Faculty will review submitted applications. Winners will be announced as the President’s Welcome Reception for Women Faculty at the start of the fall 2017 semester.
